Composition:
Each 1 mL contains inactivated feline immunodeficiency virus (Petaluma & Shizuoka strains, RP ≥ 1.0), polymyxin B, neomycin and thiomersal added as preservatives.
To be used by, or under the direction of a registered veterinary surgeon.
Directions For Use:
Vaccinate only healthy cats or kittens with normal temperatures.
Precautions:
Animals under treatment with immunosuppressive drugs should be vaccinated with caution. Studies to support the use of the product in pregnant queens have not been conducted.
Side Effects:
Some animals may show transient post-vaccination reactions including pain, malaise, lethargy, inappetence, transient fever, depression and/or stiffness. These reactions usually disappear within 24-48 hours. Allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis occur rarely and may require parenteral treatment with an antihistamine, a corticosteroid or adrenalin as appropriate. Local site reactions after vaccination are rare but transient swelling, pain and subcutaneous thickening may occur.
Dose and Administration:
Shake the bottle well to obtain a uniform suspension of the vaccine before administration. The entire contents of the bottle should be used immediately after opening. A new sterile syringe and needle should always be used to administer this vaccine.
Dose:
Withdraw the contents of a single dose vial (1 mL) aseptically into a sterile syringe and inject subcutaneously.
Recommended Vaccination Plan:
Fel-O-Vax FIV Vaccine (Inactivated) can be used on its own or as part of a standard vaccination program.
The following vaccination program is recommended for cats and kittens:
Cats aged 8 weeks:
-
For an initial vaccination course, three doses and older are required, injected at intervals of 2-4 weeks.
-
Booster Vaccination Annual booster with a single dose of vaccine.
User Safety Information:
Take care to avoid self-injection. In the event of self administration, seek prompt medical attention and take this package leaflet/ carton with you. If possible the application of gentle squeezing pressure with absorbent material (e.g. facial tissues) at the injection site will swab up unabsorbed vaccine. Strong squeezing of the site should be avoided. The damaged area should be thoroughly cleansed and a topical antiseptic applied. Accidental self-administration may result in local bruising, severe pain and swelling, particularly if injected into a joint or finger, and in rare cases could result in the loss of the affected finger if prompt medical attention is not given. If pain persists for more than 12 hours after medical examination, seek medical advice again.
First Aid:
If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131126.

Discarded syringes and needles should immediately be placed in a designated and appropriately labelled “sharps” container. Discarded vials should immediately be placed in a designated and appropriately labelled “biologicals” container.
